**Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.**Matthew 5:23 (NIV)**

This verse from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount challenges us to examine the condition of our hearts before we approach God in worship. The act of offering a gift at the altar was a deeply significant part of Jewish religious practice, symbolizing a person's devotion to God. However, Jesus emphasizes that reconciliation with others takes precedence over ritual.

Jesus is teaching us that our relationships with others directly affect our relationship with God. If we harbor unresolved conflict or if someone has something against us, our worship can be hindered. The act of worship isn't just about our vertical relationship with God but also about our horizontal relationships with others.

Before we come before God with our offerings—whether it's time, talents, or prayers—we must first seek to make things right with those we’ve hurt or who have something against us. This requires humility and a heart willing to forgive and seek forgiveness. It’s a call to live out the love and grace that we’ve received from God.

Today, reflect on your relationships. Is there someone you need to reconcile with? Take that step, trusting that God values your relationships with others as much as He values your devotion to Him. When you seek peace with others, you honor God, and your worship becomes a true reflection of His love.
