Distraction, Drama, and Doubt — The Oldest Tricks in the Book

If you’ve ever sat up at night replaying a conversation, wondering if you should’ve said something different…

If you’ve ever caught yourself imagining whole arguments in your head just to “win” them…

If you’ve ever overanalyzed a text message from someone who probably wasn’t even thinking that hard when they sent it…

Congratulations.

You’ve been baited.

Ask me how I know.

(Actually, don’t. We don’t have time for that therapy session today.)

But seriously — the enemy doesn’t need to blow up your life to slow down your calling. He just needs to get you playing games you were never meant to play.

Not every battle is yours. Not every conversation deserves a response. Not every offense requires your energy. Some things? You can just let them roll right on by.

And He’ll Even Use the People Close to You

Let’s take it one step deeper.

Because the enemy’s real sneaky with this part.

He’ll have believers — people who genuinely love God — arguing like they don’t serve the same Jesus. He’ll have you questioning people God placed in your life to support you. He’ll twist motives in your mind until you’re side-eyeing people who were praying for you five minutes ago.

Why?

Because division distracts.

And distraction delays.

If the enemy can’t divide your spirit, he’ll try to divide your circle.

He wants you isolated, insecure, and exhausted from fighting battles that aren’t even yours.

Recognize the Pattern

He’s not creative.

He’s just consistent.

Here’s how it usually goes:

He baits you.

You bite.

You get drained.

You get discouraged.

You get distracted.

And suddenly, you’re wondering why you feel stuck — when really, you’ve just been playing in the devil’s sandbox this whole time.

“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15-16)

That’s not just a nice scripture for your Pinterest board. That’s God saying, Pay attention. Time is precious. Don’t waste it on nonsense.

Not Every Invitation Deserves an RSVP

You don’t have to engage every battle.

You don’t have to answer every accusation.

You don’t have to waste your breath proving yourself to people who wouldn’t understand you even if God Himself drew them a diagram.

You are allowed to say:

“Nope. Not today, Satan. I’m booked and busy walking in my calling.”

When you stop letting the enemy bait you, you start protecting your peace. When you recognize the scheme, you keep your focus. When you guard your focus, you walk in freedom.

Let’s End on This.

If it’s wasting your time…

If it’s draining your energy…

If it’s distracting you from what God has called you to do…

It’s not from Him.

And you don’t owe it another minute of your attention.

Before You Go…

What’s one game you’ve learned to stop playing?

Drop it in the comments — because I promise, you’re not the only one who needed this reminder today.

Stay focused. Stay free. You’re too called to keep playing small. 💛
