I Can Go The Distance

As we step into 2025, I believe this is the year to not just survive, but to thrive. It’s a year of strength—not in the way the world defines it, but the strength that comes from trusting God and walking in His purpose for our lives. Strength, both physical and mental spiritual, requires intentionality, discipline, and reliance on God’s guidance.

I’ve never been the type to sit down and meticulously plan every aspect of my year. However, in the few times I’ve done so, I’ve experienced success in ways I didn’t expect. This year, the theme of strength has been given to me after much prayer, and I’m approaching 2025 with a renewed sense of focus and purpose.

The Power of Writing Goals Down

One thing that has become clear to me is the importance of writing down my goals. This is not just a practical tool but a biblical principle. In Habakkuk 2:2, God says, “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.” The act of writing down goals isn’t just about creating a checklist. It’s about clarity—clarity of purpose and direction. When we make our vision clear, we’re able to take focused steps to fulfill it.

Writing things down helps me keep my eyes on the goal, ensuring I don’t get distracted by what doesn’t align with God’s plan for me. I’m not setting out to achieve arbitrary resolutions but rather to grow in strength—mentally, physically, and spiritually. These goals are not about self-sufficiency but about trusting in God’s strength to carry me through every step.

Avoiding Idolized Resolutions

I’ve seen how resolutions can sometimes become idols, a focus on self-improvement that ultimately misses the mark. The goal isn’t simply to be better for the sake of being better; it’s about becoming who God created me to be, walking in strength to fulfill His purpose. I don’t want to set goals for the sake of a “new year, new me” mantra. Instead, my goals are rooted in faith—faith that as I pursue these goals, God will shape me into a stronger version of myself.

As Proverbs 16:3 reminds us, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” When we place our goals in His hands, we invite His will to direct our actions. By writing down these goals and committing them to God, I’m trusting that He will guide me toward the right actions and give me the strength to follow through.

Scripture for Strength and Direction

Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This is the foundation of my approach to 2025. I am not relying on my own strength or willpower to meet these goals but on Christ’s power to sustain me through each day. Whether it’s facing a challenge in my personal life, staying disciplined in my Bible study, or maintaining physical health, I know that His strength is what will carry me through.

Additionally, 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” This verse reminds me that strength doesn’t come from being perfect or having everything together. It comes from acknowledging my weaknesses and allowing God’s power to be made perfect in them.

Plans for 2025: A Holistic Approach to Strength

This year, I’ve taken a more intentional approach to planning. I’ve scheduled daily prayer time and Bible reading to ensure I’m grounded in God’s Word. Every day, I’m committing to spend time in prayer, seeking God’s guidance for the day ahead. Bible reading is a priority too, allowing the Scriptures to shape my mind and heart.

In addition to daily practices, I’ve committed to extensive Bible study at least once or twice a week. I’m diving deeper into God’s Word, not just reading but reflecting on it, meditating on it, and letting it transform me. This time in the Word is essential for building spiritual strength and maintaining a deep connection with God.

I’ve also planned my physical activity for the year. Knowing that some days will be lower in activity, I’ve scheduled those as recovery or lighter activity days, focusing on rest and self-care. On higher-activity days, I’m pushing myself to improve my physical strength, knowing that a healthy body supports a healthy mind and spirit.

Self-care is also a priority this year. I’ve recognized that taking time to rest and recharge is just as important as working toward goals. Whether it’s a quiet evening of reflection or simply enjoying a hobby that refreshes my soul, I’m committed to making space for moments of peace and rest.

Moving Forward with Strength

As I step into 2025, I’m confident that the combination of intentional goal-setting, grounding myself in God’s Word, and taking care of my body and soul will help me walk in strength. It’s not about striving on my own strength, but leaning into God’s power and allowing His grace to sustain me.

By writing down my goals and making them plain, I’m taking proactive steps to align my life with God’s will. I trust that as I pursue strength in every area of my life, God will guide me, empower me, and shape me into the person He has called me to be. 2025 is the year to rise with strength—strength for today and hope for tomorrow, all in His name.
