Riding with Jesus

In the middle of a busy day, between the never-ending to-do lists and the noise of life, it can feel like finding time for God is just another item on your calendar that gets pushed to the bottom. But what if I told you that those sacred moments don’t always come in silence or solitude? Sometimes, they happen in the middle of a chaotic commute, in the car—of all places—when you least expect it.
For me, my car has become more than just a mode of transportation. It’s where I meet God in the most unexpected and beautiful ways. I’ve had more heart-to-heart conversations with Him there than I can count. My car is my sanctuary—no joke. It’s where I can cry, sing, laugh, reflect, and just be with God. The car that gets me from point A to point B has turned into the most holy, sacred space.
It wasn’t always this way, though. I didn’t fully surrender my life to Christ until I was 31, and believe it or not, that moment happened in my car. It wasn’t some grand ceremony or a church altar call. It was in the front seat, hands gripping the steering wheel, a quiet prayer rising up in my heart. It was in that moment of raw vulnerability that I realized I had to let go and let God. That was the turning point—the moment I met God in a way I never had before.
Now, I have a playlist—a whole worship playlist I crank up every time I get behind the wheel. At first, I’m just singing along, feeling the music, but before I know it, something shifts. The song turns into a prayer, and that prayer turns into a conversation. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had the deepest talks with God while driving, as if He’s sitting next to me in the passenger seat, listening and speaking in the quiet.
In those moments, when the world outside is busy and loud, God speaks to me. He’ll remind me of someone I need to pray for, or nudge me to deal with something I’ve been avoiding. Sometimes, He’ll just let me sit in silence with Him, reminding me that even in the chaos, He’s got me. And even though the road ahead may seem unclear, I can rest in knowing He’s always there, guiding me.
God speaks in the spaces between. You know, the moments when you think nothing is happening but you’re actually having the most profound encounters with Him. It’s in the car, when I’m driving, that I often receive the clarity I’ve been begging for. It’s there I feel Him refining me, gently showing me where I’ve fallen short, but always reminding me that His love never fails. It’s funny how the places where I thought I was just passing through have become the most sacred spaces of all.
I know life is busy, and it can feel like there’s never enough time to sit down and have a long, uninterrupted prayer session. But here’s the thing: sometimes the most powerful moments with God happen in the middle of a commute, during that quick errand run, or even while waiting for the light to turn green. I’ve had some of the most profound realizations in that space—some that have brought me to tears, honestly. A simple song can turn into a prayer, and that prayer can turn into peace when you least expect it.
So if you’re struggling to find time for God, let me encourage you to shift your perspective. Maybe it’s not about carving out extra hours in the day, but about inviting Him into the little moments. What would happen if you made room for God in the everyday? Could your drive to work, the grocery store, or even that long, lonely drive home be an opportunity to connect with Him?
Riding with Jesus has become more than just a metaphor for me—it’s a literal and spiritual practice. If you’ve never experienced God in these small, personal moments, I challenge you to try it. Start singing, start praying, start reflecting. And before you know it, you’ll find that God is speaking to you in the spaces between.
So the next time you’re in the car, don’t just think of it as a place to get from one place to another. See it as a sacred space, where God is sitting right beside you, ready to speak, to guide, and to remind you that you are never, ever alone. And if you don’t believe it yet, just wait. That moment will come when you’re singing your heart out, and you’ll feel the tears start to fall—because you’ll know He’s there. He’s always been there. And that’s when it hits you: God is with you, even in the mess of the everyday.
