The Silent Season

I know why you’re here. You’re searching for answers, looking for some kind of reassurance that you haven’t messed everything up. That maybe, just maybe, God isn’t ignoring you. Because right now? It feels like He is.

The prayers feel empty. The worship songs don’t hit the same. Reading the Bible feels like staring at a wall of words instead of hearing His voice. It’s frustrating, exhausting, and if you’re honest, maybe even a little scary. Because when God goes quiet, the enemy gets loud.

He whispers, What did you do wrong?

Why isn’t He speaking to you anymore?

Maybe He’s done with you.

And if you’ve been carrying around the weight of those lies, I need you to hear me—God has not left you. He is not punishing you. He is preparing you.

Silence Is Not Absence

We equate silence with absence, but that’s not how God works. Some of the deepest, most transformative moments in our faith happen in the quiet.

Think about Joseph. He spent years in a prison cell, falsely accused, forgotten by people he helped. No booming voice from heaven, no miraculous jailbreak. Just silence. But in that silence, God was shaping him to be a leader who would save an entire nation.

Or David—anointed to be king as a teenager, yet spending years running for his life, crying out in Psalms, “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?” (Psalm 13:1). But in that silence, David learned to trust, to worship, to wait.

Even Jesus experienced it. On the cross, He cried out, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46). And yet, in that moment—when God seemed most distant—He was accomplishing the greatest victory in history.

If you’re in a season where you feel like God is silent, it’s not because He has abandoned you. It’s because He is working on something deeper in you—something intentional, something necessary.

The Work God Does in the Quiet

God’s silence isn’t wasted time. It’s a refining fire. It’s where He strengthens your faith, not by giving you constant reassurances, but by teaching you to trust even when you don’t see or feel Him.

This season may be producing something in you that comfort never could. Maybe He’s stretching your patience, teaching you to rely on His character instead of your emotions. Maybe He’s pulling you away from distractions, deepening your roots, making sure your faith isn’t just built on goosebumps and feel-good moments.

I know it doesn’t feel good. I know you want answers, a sign, something. But can I challenge you? Don’t mistake silence for absence. Don’t mistake waiting for rejection.

What Do You Do When You Feel Like God Is Silent?

  1. Keep showing up. Pray even when it feels one-sided. Worship even when you don’t feel a thing. Read His Word even when it seems dry. Faith isn’t about feeling—it’s about trusting.

  1. Look for the subtle ways He speaks. Not every word from God is going to come in a booming voice. Maybe He’s speaking through a friend, a verse that pops up at the right time, or a small moment of peace you didn’t expect.

  1. Remember His faithfulness. Look back at your life. Has He ever truly abandoned you? No. If He was faithful then, He is faithful now.

  1. Let the silence do its work. Instead of trying to escape it, lean into it. Ask God what He wants to teach you in this season. Trust that His silence has a purpose.

He’s Closer Than You Think

I know this season is hard. I know it’s lonely. But please hear me—God is closer than you think. Just because He’s quiet doesn’t mean He’s gone. Just because you don’t hear Him doesn’t mean He’s not working.

In fact, I’d argue that when God feels silent, He’s actually working overtime. He’s shifting things in you that you can’t yet see. He’s preparing you for something that requires a deeper level of faith.

You haven’t done anything wrong. He’s not punishing you. He’s producing something in you. Hold on. The silence won’t last forever. And when He speaks again, you’ll realize He was never far away.

Oh how I needed to read this. Until lately I've been in that grip but because of being brought up by a Christian mother, I ve seen the silence first hand in her life....when I was too young to understand but she never gave up on faith and trust in the Lord and I have seen him working in my life ...a little at a time. I praise the Lord everyday for all of His mercies and grace, for the many blessings He has given me. Thank you Ashley... For the encouraging words
